Spiritual Bigfoot
A Christian perspective
by Terry Trainor

I have been asked to write up something on the topic of the spiritual status of Bigfoot.
Typing "Bigfoot" into my Bible software brings back ZERO results, so I will have to wing it on this one.  I HATE it when that happens!
First, let me say that I have zero experience with any evil intent of any Bigfoot.  I was very frightened at times, but these creatures have never done anything in an attempt to harm me.  And they have had AMPLE opportunity.
In spite of that, I hear stories from people I trust implicitly concerning the damage one of these creatures has done to them, their possessions, or their animals.
As one lady put it so very well: "There are Goodfoots and Badfoots."

But what of their spiritual status?  What is their condition?  Do they have an immortal soul, and if so where will it spend eternity.

Before we can address the spiritual status of Bigfoot, it behooves us to first determine exactly what this creature is.  In spite of many years of research, this is still completely unknown, so we must address the answer from the various possibilities:

1.  If Bigfoot is Human.

We are all sinners, and in a fallen spiritual state. If this remains unchanged, we are doomed to eternity separated from God.  I won't get into denominational disputes over where we WILL be, but we can all agree that we will be in separation from God.  If Bigfoot is a type of human, he is a descendant of Adam, and therefore born with original sin, and given the opportunity to accept the vicarious sacrifice of Jesus Christ to remove that sin debt from him.
As human beings, they are included in the Great Commission, and we are to give them the Good News (Gospel).  Their spiritual condition is up to them.

2.  If Bigfoot is animal.

From my study of scripture, I am impressed with several things about animals.
First, it was Mankind that fell from grace in Eden, not animal kind.  They are, therefore, not born with original sin.  In my opinion, however, they can become sinful by acting in disobedience to God.
Second, remember Balaam riding on his ass?  An angel appeared in front of them, and the ass saw it and turned aside.  Balaam whipped the animal for turning aside from the path, however, because Balaam could not see the angel.  This shows that at least some animals have better spiritual discernment than at least some people.
Third, Jesus gave us the great commission, and worded it thus:
Mark 16:15 (KJV) "And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature."
Chasing that back to the original Greek, it means exactly that; every thing God created is to receive the Gospel.  Not just humans, but every creature.
In light of this, I have come to the conclusion that animals have immortal souls.
As animal, they are included in the Great Commission, and we are to give them the Good News (Gospel).  Their spiritual condition is up to them.
Some I KNOW will make it into heaven.  We are told in scripture:
Revelation 19:11-14 (KJV) "And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war.  His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself.  And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God.  And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean."
If there are no animals in heaven, how did all those horses come from heaven?

Really, though, how could heaven be heaven with no animals there?

3.  If Bigfoot is spirit being.

In scripture, there are numerous stories and references to spiritual beings; angels, cherubim, Sons of God, etc.  There are good ones that follow God, and there are bad ones that rebel against God.  While they do not have a 'soul' in the same sense that we do, they are eternal beings more like the soul itself in the first place!
In any case, however, the spiritual beings are creations of God. As such, they are included in the Great Commission, and we are to give them the Good News (Gospel).  Their spiritual condition is up to them.

4.  If Bigfoot is a human/spirit being hybrid.

This is along the lines of the Bigfoot being the giants of scripture, the offspring of angels and humans (sons of God and Daughters of men) as outlined here:
Genesis 6:4 (KJV) "There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown."
These hybrids were half angel half human.  But BOTH angels and humans have free will, to follow God or to not follow God, and we are commanded to give the Gospel to both of them (All creatures, remember), so their cross-bred offspring would be in the same condition.
They are included in the Great Commission, and we are to give them the Good News (Gospel).  Their spiritual condition is up to them.

So, in the final analysis, no matter what the exact nature of these creatures is, the end result is the same:  They are Gods creatures and we are to respect them as such.  Like all other of God's creatures, there are good ones and bad ones.  And like all other of God's creatures, they need to draw close to Jesus Christ in order to live eternally with him.

Will you feel a bit crazy if you go out in the woods and spout the gospel to whatever creatures may be listening?
But you will feel a lot worse if you DON'T, and later discover that some created beings spiritual condition depended upon the Good news it never heard from you.

Can you trust them?
In the same way that you can trust a human that is an unknown stranger; they could be a saint or a murderer.
In the same way you can trust an animal that you know nothing about; it could be a timid rabbit or a nasty wolverine.
In the same way you can trust a spiritual encounter; it could be an angel or a demon.

One last Bible quote will summarize how we should act toward these beings:
Matthew 10:14-16 (KJV)  "And whosoever shall not receive you, nor hear your words, when ye depart out of that house or city, shake off the dust of your feet.  Verily I say unto you, It shall be more tolerable for the land of Sodom and Gomorrha in the day of judgment, than for that city.  Behold, I send you forth as sheep in the midst of wolves: be ye therefore wise as serpents, and harmless as doves."

In modern English;
Jesus told us to go out and communicate with them.
Tell them about Him.
Never harm one.
And watch your butt.
