Narrative of report:  

I'm a police officer for the town of <deleted>.  I'm writing because I've seen something that I can't explain and no one in my department believes me.  On 10-27-2003 at approx. 0620 hours I was in a wooded area <location deleted>.  There is a dirt road that runs <location deleted> and on occasion I check it in the early morning hours due to the fact that on several occasions  I have observed very large deer and wild hogs at this location.

  After arriving into the area I turned off my patrol unit and rolled down my windows.  I had been sitting there for approx. twenty minutes when a horrible smell overtook the area.  It as not like anything that I had ever smelled before.   I have been an avid hunter for most of my life and spend may hours outdoors.  This was like nothing that I have encountered before. I mean it made my eyes water.

   Believing that this smell needed to be investigated, I grabbed my shot gun and exited my patrol unit.  Before I could reach the front of my patrol unit I heard what was believed to be a very large animal.  At that very moment there stood what could only be described as a bigfoot.  It was approx. seven feet in height and was covered in a brownish gray hair.  Its face was as the face of a man. I think that was what scared me the most.  If it was just an animal then I would have shot it but the face was as of a man.

   I stood completely still for what seemed to be forever, looking at the thing, looking at me.  It was not until the fire tones for the fire dept came across my radio that the bigfoot turned and walked back into the underbrush.

   After several minutes of contemplating what I had just observed, I heard four low grunts and observed the underbrush approximately ten feet away from me start moving.  It was at this point that I jumped in my patrol unit and literally fled the scene.

   I have been a police officer for seven years and have been involved in some very tight corners but I have never been as scared as I was that day.

   Since that day I have not slept well and have told only my closest friends.  None of them believe me.  I just hope that this incident will shed a little more light on the bigfoot controversy.
